What's the difference between a mattress protector and a mattress topper?

A mattress protector preserves your mattress by ensuring it won't be damaged. This is different from a mattress topper, which is an extra layer that you put on top of your mattress and will change the comfort of the bed.

We leaned toward the former since we already love how the Joey Mattress feels!
